The Midst of Tough Decisions

It seems I'm reminded again and again that tough decisions are just that... they are tough. We are in the midst of having to figure out several things that we, frankly, don't have clarity on. They're biggies too, which make them harder.

I always take comfort in the story about the guy (John Kavanaugh) who traveled to India in hopes of speaking with Mother Teresa. He finally was able to meet her and he asked her to pray for him.

“What do you want me to pray for?” she replied. He then uttered the request he had carried thousands of miles: “Clarity. Pray that I have clarity.”

“No,” Mother Teresa answered, “I will not do that.” When he asked her why, she said, “Clarity is the last thing you are clinging to and must let go of.” When Kavanaugh said that she always seemed to have clarity, the very kind of clarity he was looking for, Mother Teresa laughed and said: “I have never had clarity; what I have always had is trust. So I will pray that you trust God.”

If you will, pray that we make wise decisions regarding our future as we put our trust in God's provision and guidance.

I'm so thankful I get to lead this team here. It's a humbling privilege. Also, I'm thankful for the many things we DO have clarity on. Those are gifts.
